The newspaper vending box was donated to me by The Community Voice. I constructed the base and reinforced the exterior using 16 gauge steel and spray paint.
28 copies of Menstruation Monthly were freely disseminated through this upcycled newspaper vending box in Stevenson Hall on Sonoma State University’s campus. The sculpture was installed across from the gender neutral public restrooms on the ground floor.
Free dissemination of feminist art and knowledge is the sculptural act of this project. The box has been updated to include the QR code for digital access.
The emptiness of the box reflects the lack of accommodations for menstruation in public spaces. The sculpture currently lives between the gender segregated bathrooms in the Art building on Sonoma State University’s campus.
